Yeah, you know, I thought I'd have a response to that question but now I'm a little embarrassed. I'd always associated the right with backwardness an unwillingness to let go of the past and the left with being socially progressive and accepting of change. I suppose though that that's not true at all. Don't know why I thought that now. Possibly because socially leftism is in vogue these days.
I've been looking at research that says major US news networks are controlled by left elements or are sympatheric to the Left. In fact most media in the US (and therefore most of the western world) is controlled by left elements. That's why you tend to see US programs and in fact most of HollyWood products seem to embrace left values and idealogy (e.g. pro choice, 911 conspiracy,Anti bush).
only networks like CNN and FOX tend to be more balanced. And that's why it would seem that the left is in vogue. But in reality, the polls seem to show that the majority of the US are right wing traditionalists (and maybe Australia too, based on the last few Howard election victories)and thats what keeping Bush in govt.
Read 'Culture War'by Bill O'reilly for reading on this topic.
